Review: Perfect by Ellen Hopkins

"Everyone has something, someone, somewhere else that they’d rather be. For four high-school seniors, their goals of perfection are just as different as the paths they take to get there.

Cara’s parents’ unrealistic expectations have already sent her twin brother Conner spiraling toward suicide. For her, perfect means rejecting their ideals to take a chance on a new kind of love.

Kendra covets the perfect face and body—no matter what surgeries and drugs she needs to get there.

To score his perfect home run—on the field and off—Sean will sacrifice more than he can ever win back.

And Andre realizes that to follow his heart and achieve his perfect performance, he’ll be living a life his ancestors would never have understood

. Everyone wants to be perfect, but when perfection loses its meaning, how far will you go? What would you give up to be perfect? A riveting and startling companion to the bestselling Impulse, Ellen Hopkins's Perfect exposes the harsh truths about what it takes to grow up and grow into our own skins, our own selves."

This book has received 5/5 stars!

You see, no matter who we are, we are all striving for our own idea of perfection. Suppose it means losing the last ten pounds, or gaining the next ten marks on that assignment. We all have that idea of perfection that we want achieved.

I have read all of Ellen's books, and I have a general feel for all of her characters. But this book just surprised me! The characters were worded differently, and they were wonderful. This book is beautiful in it's entirety.

How do I put this book into one word...hmm...Poignant. That's exactly what it is, so beautifully sad. This book just touches your heart, and makes you empathize with the character you enjoy the most.

This book is written from the view of four people, and each person has their own idea of perfection. Each person is willing to do anything and everything to get there. Cara, thinks perfect is defying her parents wishes. Andre thinks perfect is dancing. Sean thinks perfection is Cara. And Kendra things perfect is looking...well, perfect! Each one of these characters goes through hell and back to get what they want, and watching their adventure was a heartbreaking experience. I am not one to cry whilst reading books, but this book did make me tear up a little bit.

The cover, the storyline, the everything, oh so perfect! I adored impulse, so a companion book? Oh so FREAKING perfect!

I read all 622 pages in four hours, and it was so lovely. I anticipated the character of Kendra the most, for unknown reasons, but found myself interested in Andre more.

Either way, I suggest you all go pick up this book, and Impulse and read read read! :D

Edit: Another thing I noticed, these characters were a little bit more believeable than some of her other stories. Their stories and backgrounds seemed a little more...natural and real.
